Prime Minister's Special Assistant on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan Monday announced a comprehensive relief package for rehabilitation of earthquake victims of Azad Kashmir.

Addressing a news conference in front of the Parliament House, she said the federal government will provide Rs 500,000 as compensation to the family each person who died in the recent earthquake. She said injured people are being facilitated with complete medical cover, while Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal will distribute cheques among them after making final assessment. Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said about 1000 houses were fully damaged and Rs 200,000 each will be given under this category, while Rs 3,500 houses were partially damaged, which will be compensated with Rs 50,000 each.

The special assistant said around 1,200 mud houses damaged in the earthquake, and owners of such houses will get Rs 50,000 rupees each. The compensation amount for about 100 damaged shops will be Rs 50,000, while owners of partially damaged shops will be provided Rs 25,000 each for rehabilitation, she added.

Similarly, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said that around 90 cattle were killed in the earthquake and Rs 50,000 will be granted against each such cattle.

Regarding damaged infrastructure, she said the Punjab government will rebuild the main road and damaged portion of canal along that route. She said Prime Minister Imran Khan has also directed National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to build field toilets for ladies on emergency basis.

The special assistant said the federal government is going to formulate a long-term policy with the collaboration of Azad Kashmir government for the rehabilitation of link roads, schools, hospitals, nurseries at an estimate of Rs 1,200 million. She said the federal government is providing 38 tents for temporary and immediate functioning of schools in the quake-hit areas.
